Sitting at the pinnacle of our SUV range, the New Ford Edge is the epitome of modern refinement. Potent performance, cutting-edge styling and state-of-the-art technologies put this car ahead of the crowd. With a bold and impressive road presence, this vehicle is more than just an SUV, it’s a confident statement of intent. Explore the Edge.
This optional new technology makes driving effortless, even in tight spots. It constantly monitors conditions and the way you drive to optimise the steering ratio – i.e., how many turns of the steering wheel you need to make. At lower speeds such as parking, Adaptive Steering makes the vehicle more agile and easier to turn, requiring less effort. At faster speeds Adaptive Steering enhances steering responses making turning easier with reduced steering input. With less effort driving is more pleasurable.
Active Noise Control
Active Noise Control measures disruptive sound waves (such as noise from the engine) and cancels them out. It separates them from the sounds you want to hear, such as music and conversation, making them crystal clear. Or, you can just sit back and enjoy a sense of tranquility as you concentrate on the road ahead.
By fusing smart design, clever engineering and advanced aerodynamics, the Ford Edge provides a perfectly balanced combination of performance, fuel economy and precision handling.
Advanced suspension for a superb ride and precision handling
An all new advanced multi-link rear suspension, combined with an enhanced ‘McPherson strut’ front suspension delivers excellent wheel control and refined ride quality. It’s been tuned specifically to the generous height and width of the Edge, as well as its specific performance capabilities, adding to the car’s highly responsive handling.
State-of-the-art diesel power
An advanced 2.0 TDCi engine gives you two power options: 180PS and 210PS Bi-Turbo. Both variants incorporate the latest technology to maximise performance, torque and economy, whilst lowering emissions.
• 180PS. 400Nm of torque. 44.1 mpg. CO2, 149g/km.
• 210PS. 450Nm of torque. 44.1 mpg. CO2, 149g/km.
The Bi-Turbo engine features two turbochargers and offers enhanced performance and efficiency. The primary turbo works at lower speeds, giving you an extra boost when you need it - such as when turning from a junction into moving traffic. Meanwhile, the secondary turbo works at higher speeds, like when you need to overtake a slow-moving vehicle. More than this, the Bi-Turbo engine also warms your cabin faster than a conventional engine. This reduces wear and tear on parts, improves fuel economy and helps you get going more quickly on cold mornings.
Quick, manual gear changes
A 6-speed manual gearbox has a high torque capacity and delivers smooth, swift and accurate gear-changes. To help optimise fuel efficiency, a shift indicator icon on the instrument panel tells you when to change gear.
Ford PowerShift gearbox. Fast and fuel-saving
Combining the convenience of an automatic with the control of a manual, this advanced 6-speed gearbox pre-selects the next gear for you so you don’t lose power when you change. PowerShift’s lightning fast, seamless gear changes make driving smoother while saving fuel and lowering CO2 emissions compared to a normal automatic.
Paddle Shift: enjoy rapid gear changes on an automatic
Normally only found on high end sports cars, Automatic Paddle Shift Controls are available with both the 6-speed automatic and PowerShift transmissions. This racing-inspired technology puts swift, effortless gear changes at your fingertips. And because the paddle controls are mounted on the steering wheel, you can change gear more efficiently when cornering.
Use less fuel with Auto Start-Stop
When you stop at traffic lights or your car is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine (while still supplying power to essentials like the headlights, air-conditioning, radio and the Ford SYNC system). When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or press the accelerator on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10% (urban cycle).
A more efficient way to re-charge your battery
Unlike traditional systems, Smart Regenerative Charging only charges the battery when it needs it and, whenever possible, avoids doing so when you’re pressing the accelerator. This can help save even more fuel and further reduce emissions.
Better aerodynamics for improved economy
When you’re driving slowly, the Active Grille Shutter system keeps the front grille vent open to cool the engine. When you pick up speed it can automatically close itself, improving aerodynamics and helping to save fuel.
Reducing drag to increase efficiency
An ingenious design feature of the Edge is its Front Aero Curtains. Slots in the outer edges of the front bumper direct air across the rotating wheels and out through slots in the wheel arches. This ‘skirt’ of high speed air around the wheels reduces aerodynamic drag, and improves both performance and fuel efficiency.
